Rodeo Night, NLNU Biennial Conference
"Wild West Bonanza: NLNU Biennial Conference
October 27, 2022 Nursing delegates from across Atlantic Canada gathered for an unforgettable evening of camaraderie and excitement at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland. This year's meet and greet was themed "Wild West Bonanza" to complement a lively performance by the Spirit of NL.
Our photo booth featured the NL Nurses Union sign as a backdrop, surrounded by rustic hay bales, cheerful sunflowers, and classic western hats. To enhance the Wild West atmosphere, we scattered additional hay bales and silhouettes throughout the venue. A creative covered wagon centerpiece was crafted from one of the tables.
Guests dined at tables adorned with red and white checkered runners and a variety of thematic centerpieces. These included a cowboy hat resting against a wood slice with sunflowers, gold wine bottles accompanied by sunflowers and handkerchiefs, and jute-wrapped wine bottles sporting glittery hats, red florals, and mason jars with floating candles.
To complete the immersive experience, each table was named after a fictional western town, whisking our nurse attendees away to a night of fun and adventure in the Wild West!"

Toni and Ryan, Lester's Farm Chalet
Ryan and Toni had their ceremony in Lester’s outdoor space and we added sheer to the arch and tree they had in place, along with babies breath in mason jars to line the aisle way beside the wooden benches. For the reception, we did a sweetheart table with a backdrop, greenery at the top and wooden frames with pink florals arranged on the sheer. The tables were dressed in white, with a centerpiece of a wooden slab, jute covered wine bottle with greenery.
Black and lavender wedding at the BIS
It was our first time doing a wedding at the BIS on Harvey Rd, actually the first time I had seen the room was preparing for Jennifer’s wedding. We dressed the tables in black with silver sequin table runners to add some bling, and dressed the chairs in black with lavender sashes. We added a backdrop behind the head table with white sheer on top of black and added purple uplighting to accent it.
Blair and Hannah, Admiral's Green Clubhouse
Hannah and Blair held their ceremony and reception at the Clubhouse. The couple provided a lot of the decor themselves but we helped put it all together. We provided and dressed the chairs in white spandex covers, no sash. The couple collected growlers from their dates together at different breweries and we used them as aisle decor and then later for centerpieces, adding fresh babies breath to them. Hannah provided crocheted runners for the cake and gift tables and we added a fresh greenery runner from Costco online to the head table.
Laura and Steven, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 56
Laura and Steven’s reception was the largest we had done since Covid entered our lives, I honestly thought the days of large weddings were gone but I was happy to see they are not! We dressed the tables in white cloths with no table runners to keep things simple to reflect just white and greenery with candlelight. The chairs were dressed in white covers but with no sash, the head table backdrop was also simple with a wooden sign provided by the couple hung behind them. When the lights went down, the glow from the candles, icicle lights in the venue and the white uplighting was a stunning moment!
Keela and Brandon, The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 56
Brandon and Keela chose navy and white with silver for their wedding decor. The chairs were dressed in white covers with navy sashes. We dressed the tables in navy tablecloths wit silver sequin table runners. The centerpieces were tall vases with hydrangea paired with hydrangea in fish bowl vases. The head table was framed with a backdrop of gathered sheer.
Chris and Carol, Swilers Rugby Club
Carol and Chris had their ceremony in the outdoor space at the Pippy Park Commission Headquarters on Mount Scio rd. They had a tent and white chairs set out and added a wooden table for their signing table. We added minimal decor, navy sashes with hydrangea on the chairs that lined the aisleway and a grapevine wreath to accent the door behind the signing table. They held their reception at the Swilers Rugby Club with a subtle bird theme running through the decor. We draped one wall to cover up the trophies and pictures of the club, added white tablecloths with navy runners and centerpieces of lanterns with greenery. The chairs were dressed in white with navy sashes and we added a sweetheart table for the couple and incorporated the cocktail tables of the club, dressing them in silver sequin.
Ryan and Zack, The Gypsy Tea Room
Ryan and Zack had their ceremony and reception at the Gypsy Tea Room and given the nature of the room, you only need decor to accent as the space is beautiful on its own. For the ceremony, we added a backdrop in front of the wooden doors and the metal hexagon arch in front draped in black. We repurposed the centerpieces as aisle decor, which were composed of a wooden slab, with a glass terrariums placed on top, with votive candle holders and moss and greenery surrounding. We added royal blue sand to the terrarium to pick up one of the groom’s tie with a deep green succulent to match the emerald of the other groom’s tie. Fairy lights were added to the terrarium to give a lovely glow to walk down the aisle to. We dressed the guest tables and buffet tables in black. The only other request the grooms had was that they wanted orchids incorporated into the decor, so we added potted orchids to accent the bar, fireplace and ledges in the tap room.
A British Influenced wedding at Bally Haly
Hilary approached us about providing simple decor to her wedding. We added a backdrop behind the head table, chair covers in white with pale pink sashes and table runners. The highlight for me was of the favours Hilary had chosen and they really made an impact on the tables!
Leanna and Kyle, Sheraton Hotel Court Garden
Kyle and Leanna had their ceremony and reception in the same space in the stunning space at the Sheraton Hotel. The couple wanted chivarti chairs rather than the hotel chairs so we arranged for delivery. We added a wooden arch with sheer for the ceremony, and cylinder vases with floating candles and greenery for aisle decor. For the reception, we did white tablecloths, a collection of 5 cylinder vases with greenery surrounding them for centerpieces and accent candles to create a romantic candlelit dinner. Gold charger plates with white napkins finished the look.
